Letter to donors

“You might be asking yourself if your generosity actually makes a difference in the lives of youths in the care of the DYP.”

Here’s my answer. I am currently studying management at Université de Sherbrooke. If you had not been there for me, I would have had to leave school after CEGEP. And all my life, I looked at executives and told myself that one day it could be me. That’s how much of an impact you have had on my life!

Today, your support allows me to pay for my tuition, my books and my computer. During the pandemic, you also helped me out with my rent. My education is still not finished and I will continue to need your support. I know that you will be there and your consistent support makes all the difference in my life.

To get to where I am, it was not only a matter of willingness. I am the main actor of my success, but you are at my side!

At the age of 15, I was placed in the care of the DYP because my family situation was getting worse. When I arrived at the youth centre, I found a place to rebuild myself. A new roof, resources, and especially people who gave me back my confidence. It was a long road but I finally made it!

Even if I can now say that I am on the road to success, I’m thinking about the other youths placed in the care of the DYP. There’s often this perception that these youths have no future. This stigma makes me really sad.

I don’t want anyone to doubt our capabilities because of our past traumas. We have a lot to offer to society and we need support from people like you, who believe in our capabilities!

Despite a very uncertain start in life, I am proud of how far I’ve come! But I would have never been able to make it alone. Thanks to you, I took flight without carrying the weight of my past with me.

Thank you for believing in me and for supporting me!

Anthony
