TELUS Friendly Future Foundation: actor in prevention for youths in the care of the DYP

TELUS Friendly Future Foundation gives the Fondation des jeunes de la DPJ an $18,000 grant to support language development for children taken under the care of the DYP.

This donation will be used to fund the Mots d’enfants program, a tool created to provide the first language stimulation service and early intervention to reduce the risks of language delay among the most vulnerable children.

We are honoured to be able to support the Fondation des jeunes de la DPJ with a donation from the TELUS Montreal Community Board. It brings us a real sense of satisfaction and gratitude knowing that this program will address the language and communication challenges facing youths in the care of the DYP from a very early age.

Mots d’enfants, an early language stimulation program

Mots d’enfants is an early language stimulation program, developed by speech therapy specialists (CIUSSSCN and API-Enfance). The program allows youth protection educators to work with a greater number of children and to optimize the effectiveness of their intervention.

This program is available on a digital platform and makes it easier for the workers and families taken under the care of the DYP to work together, and also reduces treatment time for children with speech disorders.

By quickly managing language delays in children, behavioural and socialization problems, and school failures could be avoided and in the longer term their psychological well-being and self-esteem would be positively impacted.

The interactive web format, combined with short lively videos and play activities, make it an accessible and stimulating tool for families that use it. For families that do not have access to computer equipment, workers can go to the children’s home and use Mots d’enfants on a tablet, in tandem with the parent or adult caretaker.

We are very lucky to be able to count on the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation’s support. This donation supports our prevention initiatives, allowing dozens of children with language disorders to access concrete, fast and personalized support.
